True North
True North is a short line of plain, well-built heaters from Pacific Energy: three wood stoves, a wood insert, a pellet stove and insert, and a direct vent gas stove. All are finished in metallic black, and the wood and pellet models are certified to the EPA 2020 standard.
The wood stoves are the TN10 with a 0.8 cu. ft. firebox, the TN20 at 2.0 cu. ft. and the catalytic TN25C, also 2.0 cu. ft. The TN40 burns wood pellets as a stove or a fireplace insert, and the TN24 is a 24,000 BTU gas stove. The blower, outside air adapters and insert surrounds are here too.
How the models differ, what each one needs for a chimney or vent, and the questions we get asked most are below the product grid.

View full detailsWhich True North wood stove?
TN10 is the small one. It has a 0.8 cu. ft. firebox, takes logs up to 14", and True North gives a burn time of about 4 to 6 hours. It is certified at 1.4 g/hr and comes on legs.
TN20 is the mid-size stove. The 2.0 cu. ft. firebox takes logs up to 20", True North gives a burn time of about 6 to 8 hours, and it is certified at 1.6 g/hr. It comes on legs or a pedestal. Both the TN10 and TN20 are non-catalytic, so there is no catalyst to maintain or replace.
TN25C has the same 2.0 cu. ft. firebox with a catalytic combustor and Electronic Combustion Assist, which manages the burn from a single air lever. It is the cleanest of the three at 1.1 g/hr, with 76% efficiency. It plugs into a wall outlet through a 12V adapter, and the catalyst needs inspecting during the heating season. It also comes on legs or a pedestal.
Stove or insert?
A stove stands in the room and vents into its own chimney. An insert slides into a fireplace you already have and vents through a liner run up the existing chimney.
The TN20 Wood Insert is the TN20 firebox built for a masonry or factory-built fireplace. It ships with a blower and a 27" x 38" surround, and it needs a fireplace at least 29" wide at the front, 20-1/4" high and 18" deep. The TN40 Pellet Insert does the same job on pellets, with a 31" x 42" surround. Larger surrounds and a backing plate are available for both when the fireplace opening is bigger than the standard surround covers.
Pellet and gas
The TN40 pellet stove has an 80 lb hopper, an automatic igniter and a digital control panel with five heat levels. It needs a 120V outlet and 3" or 4" pellet vent, and it comes on legs or a pedestal. It runs in manual mode as shipped; a low-voltage wall thermostat adds automatic operation.
The TN24 is a direct vent gas stove rated at 24,000 BTU/hr, with a log set, black porcelain panels and a Proflame 2 remote. It ships for natural gas, and choosing liquid propane adds the conversion kit. It sits on any stable floor without a floor protector and is approved for a bedroom.
True North questions
Who makes True North stoves?
True North is a Pacific Energy brand. The stoves use heavy plate-steel tops and gasketed cast iron doors, with an air wash that keeps the glass clear.
What chimney does a True North wood stove need?
All three wood stoves have a 6" flue. Each needs a 6" chimney connector and a chimney listed to UL 103HT, or a code-approved masonry chimney with a flue liner. The wood insert needs a 6" listed stainless steel liner. None of this is included with the stove, and your installer supplies it. The pellet models use 3" or 4" pellet vent or liner, and the TN24 gas stove uses 4" x 6-5/8" coaxial direct vent.
Can a True North stove go in a mobile home?
The TN10, TN20, TN25C and TN40 stoves are approved for mobile homes with outside combustion air, and the wood stoves also need a listed double-wall connector. The 3" outside air adapter fits the TN10 and the 4" adapter fits the TN20 and TN25C. The TN24 gas stove is approved for an aftermarket installation in a manufactured home where local codes allow.
Do the wood stoves come with a blower?
No. The 80 CFM blower kit is optional on the TN10, TN20 and TN25C stoves and can be added later. The TN20 Wood Insert and the TN40 pellet models include their blowers.
How close can a True North stove sit to a wall?
It depends on the model and the chimney connector. A double-wall connector lets the stove sit closer to the wall than a single-wall connector does. Every product page lists the full clearance table and the floor protection the stove needs.
What warranty does True North offer?
The wood and pellet products carry three years on parts and one year on labor for the firebox, castings and glass, and one year on electrical components, for the original purchaser. Ask us for the current gas stove terms.
