What comes with every Elevation X
- ENDLESS EMBERS, a modulating electric ember bed under the logs.
- NIGHT LIGHT, which can run on its own with the fire off.
- A split flow burner that switches between full and reduced flame.
- A heat circulating blower with variable speed and thermostatic control.
- A ProFlame II remote and the eFIRE controller, so flame height, lighting and blower speed can be set from the remote or a phone. In a power failure, flame height and on/off keep working on the receiver batteries.
- A premium safety screen and a firestop.
- Napoleon's President's Lifetime Limited Warranty.
What you need to order with it
The Elevation X ships without logs or panels, and both are required.
- A log kit: the Elevation X log kit in high definition birch (BLKEX36 / BLKEX42), driftwood (DLKEX36 / DLKEX42) or split oak (OLKEX36 / OLKEX42). Each comes with glowing embers and charcoal.
- Decorative panels: one set from the decorative panels listing: MIRRO-FLAME porcelain reflective panels (PRPEX), Antique Ledgestone (DBPEX..LS), Glacier Herringbone or Glacier Standard brick (DBPEX..GH / GS), Newport Standard brick (DBPEX..NS), or Westminster Herringbone or Westminster Standard brick (DBPEX..WH / WS). Black Illusion Glass (BIGEX36 / BIGEX42) is the eighth choice.
The 36 or 42 in each part number matches the fireplace size, for example PRPEX36 or DBPEX42WS.
Fronts, trims and extras
- Decorative fronts: Whitney in black (WEX36BK / WEX42BK), or Zen in black (ZEX36BK / ZEX42BK) or charcoal (ZEX36CH / ZEX42CH).
- Finishing trims: 2" black 4-sided (FTEX..BK), 2" charcoal 4-sided (FTEX..CH) or 3.5" black with a bevelled edge (BTEX36 / BTEX42).
- Ambient-Glow embers (W361-0239-BULK).
- A wall mount control (W660-0160).
If you add any of the trims, the fireplace has to be raised so it sits flush with the hearth or the finished floor.
Heat management and finishing
Napoleon lists four optional heat management systems for the Elevation X: Dynamic Heat Control (DHCEX), Dynamic Heat Control Plus, Ducted Heat Management and the Hot Air Distribution Kit (LHAD). Dynamic Heat Control can't be combined with the LHAD kit.
Pick the finishing kit before the wall is framed, because the framing is different for each:
- The non-combustible cement board kit (NCEX36 / NCEX42) needs no air outlet opening in the wall. Wood and drywall can't be used where the non-combustible board goes.
- The combustible finishing kit (DHCEX) needs an air outlet opening in the enclosure.
Venting
The Elevation X vents through the top on 5" exhaust and 8" air intake pipe, from Wolf Steel, Metal-Fab, BDM, Simpson Dura-Vent or Selkirk Direct Temp. From the installation manual:
- Horizontal run: 20 feet at most. Vertical run: 40 feet at most. Vertical plus horizontal together: 40 feet at most.
- Longer runs need a power vent, through the power vent adaptor kit (PVALX3).
- Rigid and flexible vent can't be mixed in one run. Flexible runs use the 5 foot (GD420) or 10 foot (GD430) vent kit.
- Terminations listed for the Elevation X: the round wall terminal kit (GD422R-2) and the Silhouette terminal kit (ST58U-1).
Framing and installation
- Framing depth is 22-1/4" for both sizes; the finished opening and rough framing widths are in the table above.
- No hearth extension is required.
- Keep furniture and other objects at least 4 feet from the front of the fireplace.
- The fireplace is hard-wired to a 120 volt supply.
- The inputs above apply from 0 to 4,500 feet; higher than that, input drops 4% for every 1,000 feet.
The installation manual on each product page has the full framing, venting and clearance drawings.
Natural gas or propane
Each size is sold as a natural gas model (EX36NTEL, EX42NTEL) or a propane model (EX36PTEL, EX42PTEL). An Elevation X runs only on the gas named on its rating plate unless a certified kit is used, so order the right fuel. Napoleon's natural gas to propane conversion kit for the Elevation X includes the burner (W175-0713 for the 36", W175-0715 for the 42").
Elevation X, Altitude X or Ascent
The Elevation X is the largest and hottest of Napoleon's four traditional direct vent lines: the Ascent, Ascent X, Altitude X and Elevation X. Next to the Altitude X, the 42" runs 45,000 BTU/hr on natural gas against 38,000, and it adds the ENDLESS EMBERS bed. It is also deeper: 22" against 18-5/8" for the Altitude X 42. Our guide Napoleon Ascent vs Ascent X vs Altitude X vs Elevation X compares heat, sizes and controls across all four.
Warranty
The Elevation X carries Napoleon's President's Lifetime Limited Warranty. The combustion chamber, heat exchanger, burner, logs and embers, ceramic glass (thermal breakage) and porcelain enamelled parts are covered for as long as you own the fireplace: Napoleon repairs or replaces them free for the first 10 years and supplies the parts at half the current retail price after that. Electrical and wearable parts, such as the blower, gas valve, remote and ignitor, are covered for the first year, as is warranty labour through an authorized Napoleon dealer.
Napoleon Elevation X FAQs
What is the difference between the Elevation X 36 and 42?
Size and heat. The 42" has a 42" x 37-1/8" fire opening against 36" x 33-1/8", and runs 45,000 BTU/hr on natural gas against 37,000. Both are 22" deep and come with the same features.
Does the Elevation X come with logs?
No. A high definition log kit (birch, driftwood or split oak) and one set of decorative panels are both required and sold separately.
Can I control it from my phone?
Yes. The eFIRE controller is included along with the ProFlame II remote, so flame height, lighting and blower speed can be set from either.
Does it work in a power outage?
Flame height and on/off keep working on the remote receiver's batteries during a power failure.
How deep a wall does it need?
Framing depth is 22-1/4" for both sizes.
Can it run on propane?
Yes. Order the propane model (EX36PTEL or EX42PTEL). Propane input is 34,000 BTU/hr on the 36" and 39,000 BTU/hr on the 42".
Does it need a hearth?
No hearth extension is required. If you add a trim, raise the fireplace so it sits flush with the hearth or the finished floor.
