The Empire DVVK4VP is the vertical through-the-roof vent kit for Empire direct-vent fireplaces with 4" x 6-5/8" DuraVent DirectVent Pro venting. It supplies the parts above the roof line: the cap, storm collar and roof flashing.

Specifications

Installation Notes

• Pipe and firestops: the pipe, elbows, ceiling firestops and supports below the roof are sold separately.
• Roof opening: the roof hole depends on the pitch; keep 1" between the vertical pipe and all combustible material. Frame the hole with lumber the size of the rafters. The flashing must be anchored to the frame to stand up to high winds, and the storm collar goes over the joint, sealed with non-hardening sealant.
• Height above the roof: the manuals set the minimum height from the roof to the lowest opening of the cap by roof pitch: 12" up to 6/12, 15" to 7/12, 18" to 8/12, 24" to 16/12 and 36" to 21/12. Raise it in high wind, near trees or next to taller roof lines if draft is poor.
• Tall vertical runs: on a completely vertical run of 10 ft to 40 ft, Empire's manuals offer a vertical inlet baffle (VIB6A for 6-5/8" pipe) to keep the yellow flame.
• Installation: must be installed by a qualified installer following the fireplace manual and local codes. In Massachusetts, gas work must be done by a licensed plumber or gas fitter.

Empire's warranty in the fireplace's installation manual covers remote controls, thermostats, accessories and replacement parts for 1 year (parts), for the original purchaser. Full terms are in the warranty section of the installation manual.
