Superior WS-S-TSTAT Wall Switch with Thermostat

The Superior WS-S-TSTAT is a wall thermostat for Superior direct-vent gas fireplaces. It runs the fireplace in manual on/off mode or as a thermostat, and its large LCD screen shows the room temperature and the set temperature in °F or °C. It mounts on the wall surface near the fireplace and connects to the fireplace's wall switch wire.

Superior lists it for its DRT2000, DRT3000 and DRT4000 traditional fireplaces, the DRL2000 linear fireplaces, the DRC2033 and DRC3000 contemporary fireplaces and the DRT35ST and DRT40ST see-through fireplaces. The DRT2000, DRT3000, DRT4000, DRC3000 and DRL2000 need a wall switch, thermostat or remote to run, and this thermostat can be that control.

Installation Requirements

  • Location: mount it on a wall near the fireplace, where it's easy to reach.
  • Wiring: wire it into the fireplace's control circuit with the 15 ft of 2-conductor wire that ships with the fireplace. One end of each conductor is already connected to the gas valve circuit; the other ends are left loose in the fireplace's bottom compartment.
  • Millivolt fireplaces: never connect a wall control to a 120 V supply.
  • Electronic-ignition fireplaces: it goes in the low-voltage circuit, and the fireplace itself still needs its 120 V supply at the junction box.
  • Safety label: put one of the multilingual safety labels from the fireplace's care and operation instructions on the thermostat, in the language mainly spoken in the home (English if you're not sure).

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my fireplace need a wall control?
The millivolt DRT2000 and DRT3000 fireplaces come without a factory-installed control, so they need a wall switch, a unit-mounted switch, a thermostat or a remote before they'll run. The electronic DRT2000, DRT3000, DRT4000, DRC3000 and DRL2000 models need a wall switch, thermostat or remote. This thermostat meets that requirement.

Will it work on a DRT4200 or DRL3500?
No. Superior lists it for the DRT4000 and DRL2000 series only. The DRT4200 and DRL3500 run from an on/off control or a remote.

Should I get this or a remote?
This thermostat stays on the wall and is wired to the fireplace. The RC-S-STAT remote is handheld, with manual, thermostat and countdown timer modes and a receiver that mounts on the wall or sits in the fireplace's control compartment. If you only want the fire to shut itself off, the WS-S-TMR wall timer runs it for 30, 60 or 120 minutes.
