The Superior DRL4072 is a 72" linear direct vent gas fireplace from the DRL4000 series, with a clean face and a ceramic glass viewing area 68-5/8" wide and 15-5/8" tall. It runs from 45,000 down to 31,500 Btu/hr on natural gas, and the black painted firebox comes with four 5 lb bags of reflective black crushed glass.
It ships for natural gas (DRL4072TEN); Superior's conversion kit changes it to propane (43,000 to 32,250 Btu/hr). It is a sealed-combustion unit that vents through 6" x 9" Superior 6DVL (DV Lock) pipe, and the electronic IPI/CPI ignition has a four AA battery backup, so the burner still lights in a power outage. Non-combustible fireboard ships in the box to finish the face, and a see-through kit can turn it into a two-sided fireplace.
You pick one control (a wall switch, thermostat or remote is required) and can add a blower, a black reflective glass liner, a black trim kit, other glass colors, river rock or a driftwood log set, or the HeatFlo kit if a TV is going on the wall above. If you would rather have the blower, floor lighting, porcelain liner and remote included, the Superior DRL6072 is the same 72" size. The DRL4000 series also comes in 48" (DRL4048), 60" (DRL4060) and 84" (DRL4084).

Do I need a remote or wall switch with the DRL4072?
Yes. One control must be used: an on/off wall switch, a thermostat or a remote. Superior's OTRK-LIN on/off thermostatic remote is the kit made for the DRL4000 series, and 15 ft of two-conductor wire ships with the fireplace for a wall control.
Is it available for propane?
It ships for natural gas. Superior's GCK-M-4072NP conversion kit changes it to propane, at 43,000 Btu/hr high and 32,250 Btu/hr low.
Can it be a see-through fireplace?
Yes. The see-through conversion kit makes it two-sided, and it comes with the fireboard and instructions for that setup. The optional blower kit can't be used with it.
Can I put a TV above it?
Superior suggests at least 12" from the fireplace opening to the TV on a flush wall, or 18" with a recessed wall pocket, and the TV must stay within its maker's temperature rating. The HeatFlo kit sends warm air out a register near the ceiling instead of up the wall, with no blower or power. Our guide to fireplace heat management explains how these kits work.
Will it work during a power outage?
Yes. Four AA batteries run the ignition and burner when the power is out. An optional blower won't run until power returns.
What's the difference between the DRL4072 and the DRL6072?
They share the same 72" size, framing and Btu range. The DRL6072 adds a factory-installed six-speed blower, floor lighting, a black porcelain liner, platinum glass and a multi-function remote, and it can use Superior's power vent kit.
Can it go in a bedroom?
Yes. The DRL4072 is listed for bedrooms, aftermarket mobile homes and permanently located manufactured homes, where local codes allow.
Superior's 20 Year Limited Warranty covers the DRL4072 against defects in materials and workmanship:
Vent components, trim and paint are not covered. The warranty is for the original owner of a fireplace installed in the US or Canada. Full terms are in the warranty certificate.
