The Superior DRI2032 is a 32" direct vent gas insert for an existing wood-burning fireplace, masonry or factory-built. It sets into the firebox, draws its combustion air from outside and vents through two 3" flexible liners up the chimney, and it has a ceramic fiber log set with glowing embers behind ceramic glass in a black painted firebox.
It comes as the DRI2032TEN for natural gas, 28,000 Btu/hr high and 16,000 low, rated 70% AFUE; a conversion kit sets it up for propane. A 140 CFM variable-speed blower is built in, and Superior puts its heating range at about 500 to 1,800 sq ft. The electronic IPI/CPI ignition runs on 120 V with a four AA battery backup, so the fire keeps going in a power outage; the blower waits for power.
One full front facade is required, and it takes the place of a separate facade and surround: the medium 41" x 25" or the large 43" x 32". A trimmable four-sided surround panel fits the medium 41" x 25" facade. The fireplace opening must be at least 32" wide at the front, 22" at the rear, 19-1/2" high and 16" deep. For a smaller fireplace, see the Superior DRI2027.

AFUE and P4 figures are from Superior's installation manual. AFUE is the US annual fuel utilization efficiency rating and P4 the Canadian CSA P.4.1 fireplace rating; propane figures apply after conversion. Superior gives the heating area as an approximation that depends on the home's design and insulation, ceiling heights, climate and how the insert is run.

Will the DRI2032 fit my fireplace?
It needs an opening at least 32" wide at the front for the first 3" of depth, 22" wide at the rear, 19-1/2" high and 16" deep, in a masonry or factory-built wood-burning fireplace. Both 3" liners also have to pass through the damper area; if they can't, the insert can't go in.
Can I burn wood in the fireplace again later?
Not with the insert in place. Once converted, the fireplace is for the gas insert only. To burn wood again, the insert has to come out, every part that was removed has to go back in, and the fireplace has to be approved again by your local building authority.
How is it vented?
Through two 3" flexible liners up the existing chimney, one for exhaust and one for combustion air, ending at a listed direct vent cap. The exhaust liner must be listed to UL 1777. The vent height must be 10 to 35 ft. DuraVent's 46DVA-CL33 kit includes both liners, the adapter, flashing and cap.
Will it work during a power outage?
Yes. Four AA batteries run the ignition and burner when the power is out. The blower won't run until power returns.
Do I need a remote?
No. The on/off, high/low flame, IPI/CPI and blower speed controls are on the left side of the full front facade. For on/off and high/low from your chair, add the EF-BRCK hand-held remote or the EF-WWRCK wireless wall switch.
Can I change it from natural gas to propane, or the other way?
Yes. BI32-CK-NG converts it to propane (14,000 to 25,000 Btu/hr after conversion), and BI32-CK-LP converts it back. Otherwise it may only run on the gas shown on its rating plate.
Can it go in a bedroom?
Yes. The DRI2032 is approved for sitting rooms and bedrooms, and for aftermarket, permanently located manufactured or mobile homes in the USA, where local codes allow.
Superior's 20 Year Limited Warranty covers the DRI2032 against defects in materials and workmanship:
Vent components, trim and paint are not covered. The warranty is for the original owner of a fireplace installed in the US or Canada. Full terms are in the warranty certificate.
