Empire 3-Sided & 4-Sided Surrounds for Small and Medium Vent-Free Insert
The Empire steel surrounds on this page (model numbers DS20433BL, DS20763BL, DS20334BL, DS28433BL, DS28763BL and DS28334BL) are the one-piece matte black surrounds for Empire's Loft and Innsbrook vent-free fireplace inserts. Every one of these inserts needs a surround when it is installed in a fireplace.
The DS20 surrounds fit the small inserts (Loft 10,000 and 20,000 Btu, Innsbrook VFPC20) and the DS28 surrounds fit the medium inserts (Loft 28,000 Btu, Innsbrook VBPC28). Choose a 3-sided surround with a 4" top and 3" legs or a 7" top and 6" legs, or a 4-sided surround with a 3" border all around.

Installation Notes

Required: the Loft and Innsbrook vent-free insert manuals say every unit must be installed with one of these surrounds (or the cast iron surround on the Innsbrook inserts).

Installation: set the insert on the hearth first. Attach the lip to the top inside flange of the surround with three #8 x 1/2" truss head screws, hook the surround onto the four cutouts in the insert face flanges, slide the insert and surround into the fireplace and refit the barrier screen. A Phillips screwdriver is the only tool needed.

On/off switch: on the 3-sided surrounds the supplied on/off switch can be mounted in the outer edge of the surround panel, and a knockout in the lower right corner lets the blower power cord through.

Handling: wear gloves; the edges are sharp. Installation by a qualified service person.

Larger openings: pair a surround with the SH1BL shroud to cover a larger fireplace opening (not with the DS20433BL), or order a custom surround.
