Empire 29" Loft Small Vent-Free Gas Fireplace Insert (20,000 BTU)
A Vent-Free system uses room air for combustion and delivers 99.9% of the available heat energy directly to the room. Vent-Free systems have an unmatched safety record, thanks in part to their clean-burning technology and their Oxygen Depletion Sensor, which instantly shuts of the valve if oxygen in the room drops to and unsafe level. Because no venting is required, Vent-Free systems offer more installation options.
Vent-Free systems are limited to 40,000 Btu and must be operated as supplemental heating sources in conjunction with a central furnace that circulates air.

LOFT VENT-FREE INSERTS (VFLC)
Empire comfort systems offers the Loft Vent-Free Inserts in two sizes (20,000 BTUs and 28,000 BTUs) so you are sure to find one to fit your existing wood-burning fireplace.
A 10,000 BTUs model is available for bedroom applications – where allowed by codes.
The Loft Series Vent-Free Insert features a contemporary linear burner in a sleek, black firebox that reflects the flames to create depth and visual interest. A fine barrier mesh screen comes standard with each Loft Vent-Free Insert.
The Loft Insert lights at the flick of a switch to produce consistent, reliable heat, even when electric power fails. Add the convenience of an optional thermostat, wireless wall thermostat, remote control, or thermostat remote control, and enjoy all the comfort of a warm fire without the mess and hassle.

This unit installs as an insert inside an existing fireplace with the decorative front
Minimum fireplace opening: 19-3/8" high, 27-1/2" front width, 15-3/4" rear width, 13-1/2" deep
Venting: Vent-free (unvented): no chimney or vent required. The heater uses air from the room in which it is installed for combustion.
Room size: The room should provide at least 50 cubic feet of volume per 1,000 Btu/hr of all appliances drawing combustion air from it (1,000 cubic feet for this insert alone at 20,000 Btu/hr). A smaller (confined) space needs the additional ventilation air described in the installation manual.
Bedrooms and bathrooms: Not for bedrooms or bathrooms. The manual states that an unvented room heater with an input rating of more than 10,000 Btu/hr shall not be installed in a bedroom or bathroom. In the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, unvented gas space heaters are prohibited in bedrooms and bathrooms.
Clearances to combustibles: 8" minimum from the inside edge of the firebox to a perpendicular side wall. Do not use vinyl, carpet or wood-based flooring within 16" of the insert face.
Mantel clearance: Follow the mantel chart in the installation manual for any combustible mantel or trim above the unit.
Gas input (BTU/hr): Natural gas 20,000 max / 13,000 min; propane 20,000 max / 16,000 min (millivolt) or 14,000 min (intermittent pilot)
Power: Millivolt models are self-powered: the gas valve needs no 110-volt supply. Intermittent pilot models use an AC/DC power adapter with 4 AA batteries as battery backup. The blower requires 120V, 60Hz, 1 amp.
Installation: Must be installed by a qualified installer per the installation manual and local codes.
