Majestic Meridian 36 inch direct vent gas fireplace in a modern great room

Majestic Gas Fireplaces Compared: Quartz vs Meridian vs Marquis II

Majestic makes three families of direct vent gas fireplaces that cover most homes: the slim Quartz, the mid-size Meridian and the large, traditional Marquis II. Each family also has an upgraded version: the Quartz Platinum, the Meridian Platinum and Meridian Modern, and the Marquis II See-Through. They range from $2,359 to $9,709 for the fireplace alone, and some need a front and interior panels bought separately, so the real cost gap is bigger than the sticker price suggests. This guide compares all of them side by side.

The difference in one paragraph

The Quartz is the slim, budget-friendly choice: about 16" deep, up to 1,300 sq ft of heat, and it ships with its firescreen front, so nothing else is required. The Meridian is deeper at about 21 1/2", has a bigger, taller flame and Majestic's Dynamic Thermostat, and works with the IntelliFire app and smart speakers; you choose and buy the front separately. The Marquis II is the showpiece: 24" deep, 61" or 67" wide, up to 54,500 BTU and 2,900 sq ft of heat, with split logs, a flush hearth and LED ember and accent lighting.

Majestic Quartz: slim, simple and complete

The Quartz is the fireplace to pick when depth or budget is tight. It is 16 5/16" deep and frames into a 16 1/4" deep opening, which is several inches shallower than the Meridian or Marquis II. It vents off the top with SLP pipe or off the rear with DVP pipe, which gives your installer flexibility.

Every Quartz ships ready to run: 8 ceramic fiber logs, glowing embers, tempered glass, a full firescreen front and hood, IntelliFire Touch ignition and battery backup for power outages. The 32" and 36" can be converted to a contemporary look with glass media and stones using Majestic's conversion kit. Brick or reflective black glass interior panels, a 160 CFM fan, trim kits and smarter controls are all optional. Natural gas and propane are separate models, so order the one that matches your gas.

The Quartz Platinum 36 is the same size as the Quartz 36 with more fire and more included: up to 30,500 BTU, ceramic glass, LED illuminated embers, a variable speed blower and the RC400 touchscreen remote. Unlike the standard Quartz, it needs a front (a contemporary rectangular door or a black mesh front) and interior panels bought separately.

Majestic Meridian: the bigger flame and the smart controls

The Meridian is the middle of the lineup and the most flexible. It is 21 7/16" deep with a larger viewing area than the Quartz of the same size: 34 1/4" x 24 3/4" on the 36" and 41 1/4" x 26 11/16" on the 42". Every Meridian uses IntelliFire Touch with battery backup, can be controlled from the IntelliFire app or a smart speaker with the Wi-Fi module, and has Majestic's Dynamic Thermostat, which tapers the flame as the room warms.

The Meridian is also where you get the most say in the look. You choose a front: the inside-fit Essence, the Ventura overlap front, the arched Manor or the Ensemble with ClearVue mesh, in black, new bronze or gun metal depending on the style. Brick interior panels in traditional or herringbone Tavern Brown, Castle Stone, or a reflective black glass liner are optional on the standard Meridian. Heat management options include passive heat kits and Heat-Zone ducting; our guide to fireplace heat management systems explains how they work.

There are three Meridians:

  • Meridian ($3,199 and $4,119): 6 ceramic fiber logs, glowing embers and tempered glass, in natural gas or propane.
  • Meridian Platinum ($4,999 and $5,719): more heat, up to 45,000 BTU on the 42", plus ceramic glass, LED accent lighting, LED illuminated embers, a variable speed fan and the RC400 remote included. Interior panels are required.
  • Meridian Modern ($4,269 and $4,799): a crushed glass ember bed in copper, crystal, graphite or smoked, with a two-sided black ceramic glass liner included and Driftwood logs or stone accents as options. It is natural gas only.

Majestic Marquis II: the big traditional fireplace

The Marquis II is for a great room or a large open space. The 42" is 67" wide and 24" deep, with a 41 7/8" x 36 1/16" viewing area, up to 54,500 BTU on natural gas and a listed heating capacity of up to 2,900 sq ft. The 36" is 61" wide with up to 44,000 BTU and 2,300 sq ft.

It is built to look like masonry. A flush hearth lets the fireplace floor sit level with the hearth or room floor, 7 ceramic fiber split logs sit on an LED-lit ember bed, and LED accent lighting adds glow with or without a fire. The RC400 touchscreen remote is included. You choose a firescreen front in black, gun metal or new bronze, and brick panels in Tavern Brown traditional or herringbone, or reflective black glass walls with a matching hearth brick and top. The Marquis II ships for natural gas, with a propane conversion kit sold separately.

The Marquis II See-Through 42 opens to two rooms at once, with 11 split logs, up to 57,500 BTU and up to 3,100 sq ft of heat. It needs two firescreen fronts, one for each side. For more on two-sided designs, read our see-through fireplace guide.

So which Majestic should you buy?

Choose the Quartz if you want a complete, traditional gas fireplace at the lowest cost, or if your wall depth is limited. It is the only one in this comparison that needs nothing else to run.

Choose the Meridian if you want a bigger flame, more control over the look and app or smart speaker control. Pick the Platinum for the most heat and lighting, or the Modern for a contemporary glass ember bed.

Choose the Marquis II if the fireplace is the centerpiece of a large room and you want a big, traditional masonry look and the most heat Majestic offers here. Choose the See-Through to share the fire between two rooms.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the Majestic Quartz and Meridian?

The Quartz is shallower (16 5/16" deep against 21 7/16"), heats up to 1,300 sq ft and ships with its front, so nothing else is required. The Meridian has a larger viewing area, Dynamic Thermostat and app and smart speaker control, and you choose its front from four styles, bought separately.

What is the difference between the Meridian and Meridian Platinum?

The Platinum has a higher BTU range, ceramic glass instead of tempered glass, LED accent lighting, LED illuminated embers, a variable speed fan and the RC400 remote included. It also requires interior panels, which are optional on the standard Meridian.

Which Majestic gas fireplace puts out the most heat?

The Marquis II See-Through 42 is rated up to 57,500 BTU and up to 3,100 sq ft, and the Marquis II 42 up to 54,500 BTU and 2,900 sq ft. Among the smaller models, the Meridian Platinum 42 reaches 45,000 BTU.

Do these Majestic fireplaces work during a power outage?

Every model in this guide uses IntelliFire Touch ignition with battery backup, which Majestic lists for keeping the fireplace running during a power outage.

Can I get them in propane?

The Quartz and Quartz Platinum come as separate propane models, and the Meridian and Meridian Platinum are sold in natural gas or propane. The Marquis II converts to propane with a kit. The Meridian Modern is natural gas only.

Are these direct vent or vent-free?

All of them are direct vent, drawing combustion air from outside and venting exhaust outside. If you are weighing vent-free, see our guide to direct vent vs vent-free gas fireplaces.
