The Superior DFTWOOD40-45SPO is the six-piece high-definition driftwood log set Superior makes for its 40" and 45" DRC3000 contemporary direct-vent gas fireplaces, the DRC3040 and DRC3045. It turns the fireplace's reflective black crushed glass bed into a driftwood fire, with logs across the back, stacked logs at the left and right, and an ember log along the front.
The pieces lock into place on three tabs in the firebox floor and on pins in the logs themselves, so they go back the same way every time. The set is optional; the fireplace runs on its glass media alone. It can't be combined with Superior's accessory rock kit or any other log or rock kit.

Which fireplaces does it fit?
The Superior DRC3040 and DRC3045, part of the DRC3000-E contemporary direct-vent series. The 40" and 45" models share this set; the 35" uses the DFTWOOD35SPO.
Can I use it with the rock kit?
No. Superior says the accessory rock kit can't be used when the log kit is installed, and no log or rock kit can be combined with any other.
Do I have to change anything in the fireplace?
The rear panel comes out to uncover the log tabs. If you're also adding the accessory liner panels, the front metal ramp gets changed before the logs go in.
Is it required?
No. The fireplace comes with reflective black crushed glass and runs without logs; the set changes the look from a glass bed to a driftwood fire.
How do I clean the logs?
Wait until they're cool, lift them out carefully (fiber logs get fragile once they've been fired) and clean off carbon with a vacuum or a soft brush, such as a paintbrush. Put each piece back exactly where the instructions show; logs out of position cause carbon build-up and change how the fireplace burns.
What if I see soot on the logs or glass?
Soot almost always means a flame is touching a log. Turn the fireplace off, let it cool, and check every piece against the placement instructions so nothing sits in the flames or over the burner ports. If it still soots with the logs in the right place, have a qualified service technician check the burner's air adjustment.
The log set is covered under Superior's 20 Year Limited Warranty on the Superior DRC3040 or DRC3045 it's installed in, which treats logs this way:
Wear and tear, misuse and faulty installation aren't covered, and Superior says using a log set that isn't approved for the fireplace voids the fireplace's warranty. The warranty is for the original owner of a fireplace installed in the US or Canada. Full terms are in the warranty certificate.
