Installation Requirements

  • Enclosure and framing: framing dimensions, clearances to combustibles and mantel limits are in the installation manual. Do not fill the required air spaces inside the enclosure with insulation.
  • Hearth extension: a non-combustible hearth extension 49" wide, extending 8" past each side of the door opening. Its depth in front (16" to 32") and R-value (none, 1.00 or 2.00) depend on how high the fireplace sits above the floor, per the hearth extension table in the manual.
  • Chimney: use only the 8" solid-pack chimney systems listed in the manual, at least 15 ft tall for a straight installation.
  • Outdoor air: some US jurisdictions require an outdoor combustion air supply; the optional fresh air kit provides one, and Empire recommends a carbon monoxide alarm when one is installed. The fireplace may not be installed outdoors.
  • Mobile homes: not approved for mobile (manufactured) homes in the US.
  • Installation: must be installed by a qualified installer per the installation manual and local codes; check with your local building official for permits and inspection.
