Installation Requirements
-
Log set: install only a listed ANSI Z21.11.2 vent-free gas log set of no more than 40,000 Btu/hr that fits this firebox, and follow the log set's own instructions, including its room-size and bedroom/bathroom rules, as well as this manual.
-
Clearances: the side and back flanges are zero clearance to combustibles; keep at least 6" from the inside of the firebox to a perpendicular combustible side wall.
-
Top and framing: combustible finishing materials need 3/4" clearance to the top of the unit; frame with 2 x 4 lumber or heavier, with headers at least 3/4" above the firebox.
-
Ceiling: at least 42" from the top of the hood to the ceiling, and at least 84" from floor to ceiling.
-
Front: leave at least 36" clear in front of the firebox. The supplied hood (or an optional hood) must be installed before use.
-
Mantel: a combustible mantel must meet the mantel chart in the installation manual.
-
Floor: on carpet, tile or any combustible floor other than wood, set the firebox on a metal or wood panel the full width and depth of the unit. Hearth extensions are recommended but not required.
-
Gas: the firebox takes a 3/8" gas line for the log set, through access holes on either side; propane installs need an external regulator limiting supply pressure to 14" w.c. In Massachusetts a flexible connector may not exceed 3 ft, the installation must be made by a licensed plumber or gas fitter, and unvented heaters are not allowed in bedrooms or bathrooms.
-
Power: only needed for the optional blower or light: the junction box on the lower right must be pre-wired when the firebox is installed, grounded per code, controlled by a wall switch or the SCV1 speed control.
-
Installation: must be installed by a qualified installer per the installation manual and local codes.
