Empire 22" Small Spirit Steel Vent Free Gas Stove (20,000 BTU)

A Vent-Free system uses room air for combustion and delivers 99.9% of the available heat energy directly to the room. Vent-Free systems have an unmatched safety record, thanks in part to their clean-burning technology and their Oxygen Depletion Sensor, which instantly shuts off the valve if oxygen in the room drops to and unsafe level. Because no venting is required, Vent-Free systems offer more installation options.

Vent-Free systems are limited to 40,000 Btu and must be operated as supplemental heating sources in conjunction with a central furnace that circulates air.

Empire Steel Stoves

Empire vent-free steel stoves showcase Empire's contour burner system. This modern design features clean lines and an extended ember bed for added glow. The Spirit Series is offered in 2 sizes, allowing versatility for a range of room spaces. The hand painted ceramic fiber log set creates a realistic effect that brings the warmth and comfort to your home.

Choose from two sizes (20,000 BTU and 25,000 BTU).

Spirit Stoves are available in two types of ignition.

i) Millivolt (MV)

Empire Cast Iron Stoves are available in two types of ignition – Millivolt (MV) and Intermittent Pilot (IP). The Millivolt system lights a standing pilot with a pushbutton piezo ignitor. Once the standing pilot is lit, the MV system operates with an on/off switch concealed on the back of the stove or with one of Empire’s optional remote control systems.

ii) Intermittent Pilot (IP)

IP systems eliminate the standing pilot for even greater energy savings. Pressing the on/off switch ignites the pilot, which then ignites the main burner. IP systems can also operate with an optional remote control system.

    Installation Requirements

    • Clearances to combustibles: Ceiling (top of appliance) 36", rear wall 2", side wall 6", heater corners (45° angle) to wall 4", floor 0"
    • Floor protection: Install on a flat, solid, continuous surface (e.g. wood, metal, concrete). The manual allows that surface to be covered with carpeting, vinyl, wood flooring or other combustible material.
    • Venting: Vent-free. No chimney, flue or vent pipe is required.
    • Minimum room size: The room must have at least 50 cubic feet of volume per 1,000 Btu/hr of input (the manual's "unconfined space" rule). At the 20,000 Btu/hr maximum input that is at least 1,000 cubic feet.
    • Bedrooms and bathrooms: Not permitted. The manual prohibits an unvented room heater rated over 10,000 Btu/hr in a bedroom or bathroom. In the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, unvented propane or natural gas-fired space heaters are prohibited in bedrooms and bathrooms.
    • Supplemental heat: The manual states that unvented room heaters must be used as supplemental heat (a room) rather than a primary heat source (an entire house).
    • Gas input (BTU/hr): Natural gas 20,000 max / 14,500 min; propane 20,000 max / 16,000 min (millivolt and intermittent pilot alike)
    • Power: Intermittent pilot models (VFD__70) run on an AC power adapter with battery backup.
    • Installation: Must be installed by a qualified installer per the installation manual and local codes.



    WARRANTY

    • All vent-free parts carry a five-year limited warranty with a five-year limited labor warranty.
    • All remote controls carry a one-year limited warranty.
