Which Summerset grill line?

Sizzler is the entry line and the volume seller, built in 25", 32" and 40" with three, four and five 12,000 BTU burners respectively. It lights with piezo ignition and needs no electrical power. It is the right choice when the grill is one element of a larger build and the budget is going into cabinetry and stone.

Sizzler Pro sits directly above it at 32" and 40", with four and five 14,000 BTU burners, a 15,000 BTU infrared back burner and halogen cooking lights.

TRL Pro is the mid-to-upper line, offered at 32" with three main burners and 40" with four, each running 20,000 BTU, plus a 15,000 BTU infrared back burner. Resort is a single 30" grill with two 25,000 BTU burners, built for shared and multi-family settings and needing no electrical power.

Quest is the flagship, built in 30", 36" and 42" with two, three and four 18,000 BTU stainless steel U-tube burners and a 13,000 BTU angled infrared back burner behind them, for 49,000, 67,000 and 85,000 BTU in total. It is also the most heavily equipped line, with halogen interior cooking lights and LED accent lighting.

Burner count alone is not a good guide across these lines — the burners differ in output, so a five-burner Sizzler and a four-burner Quest of similar width are not directly comparable. The per-burner BTU and the total cooking surface on each product page are the numbers worth reading.

Building the rest of the island

The parts people forget are the access doors and drawers. Every built-in grill needs access underneath for the gas connection and, on propane, for the tank — and that access has to be a proper vented outdoor-rated door, not a cupboard door. Summerset makes doors, drawers and combination door-and-drawer units sized to sit under and beside their grills.

Beyond that: outdoor refrigeration, side burners for pots and sauces, range hoods where the grill sits under a roof or pergola, sinks and faucets, and fitted covers. If the island will be covered, the hood is not optional — grilling under a solid roof without extraction is both a comfort and a safety problem.

Summerset questions

What size grill do I need for my island?

Work from the cut-out, not the grill's model name. A 32-inch grill does not need a 32-inch hole — the Sizzler Pro 32 takes a 30 5/8 inch wide opening, because the grill's flange rests on the surround. Every Summerset grill page on this site lists the required cut-out width, depth and height, and those are the three numbers to give your fabricator. As a rough guide on capacity, a 25 to 32 inch grill suits a family, and 40 inches and up is for people who regularly cook for a crowd.

What is the difference between Sizzler and Sizzler Pro?

Sizzler Pro sits one step above Sizzler at the same 32 and 40 inch widths. Both have four burners at 32 inches and five at 40, but the Pro's main burners are 14,000 BTU against the Sizzler's 12,000, and the Pro adds a 15,000 BTU infrared back burner and halogen cooking lights. The standard Sizzler needs no electrical power. Check the cut-out on each product page before swapping one for the other in an existing island.

Do I need a vent hood over an outdoor grill?

Only if the grill sits under a solid roof, a pergola with a covered top, or any enclosed or partly enclosed structure. In the open air you do not need one. Under cover you do, both to keep smoke and grease out of the structure and because combustion products need somewhere to go. Summerset makes outdoor-rated range hoods for this; an indoor kitchen hood is not a substitute and will corrode.

Can I run a Summerset grill on propane?

Yes — the grills are built for natural gas or liquid propane, and the fuel is specified when you order rather than converted afterwards. On propane, plan where the tank will live at the same time as the cabinetry: it needs a ventilated enclosure with access, which is what the vented doors and propane tank drawers in this collection are for. Retro-fitting tank access into finished stonework is the expensive mistake.
