If you have been comparing the Cottagewood against the indoor Majestic Biltmore, the dimensions are not merely similar. Every size matches: 45-1/2" x 59-3/4" x 28" for the 36, 51-1/2" x 59-3/4" x 28-1/2" for the 42, and 61-5/8" x 71" x 30-1/2" for the 50. Majestic even builds one decorative interior panel set that fits either fireplace.

That means a wall already drawn around a Biltmore can take the matching Cottagewood without a single measurement changing. Choose by where the fireplace is going, not by how the opening has to be framed.

What is the difference between the Majestic Cottagewood and the Biltmore?

Where they go. The Cottagewood is built for outdoor installation and the Biltmore for interior installation. Beyond that they are the same fireplace in the same three sizes, and every framing dimension is identical, so a plan drawn for one will take the other.

What size opening do I need to frame for a Majestic Cottagewood?

The Cottagewood 36 needs a rough opening of 45-1/2" wide by 59-3/4" high by 28" deep. The 42 needs 51-1/2" by 59-3/4" by 28-1/2". The 50 needs 61-5/8" by 71" by 30-1/2". Frame to those numbers rather than to the appliance width, which is narrower in every size.

Does the Majestic Cottagewood need a drain pan?

Majestic makes a drain pan sized to each of the three Cottagewoods. Whether your build needs one depends on how exposed the fireplace will be, so tell us about the site and we will confirm the full parts list before you order.

Can the Cottagewood be built freestanding instead of into a wall?

Yes for the 36" and 42", which both have a Majestic freestanding kit. There is no equivalent kit listed for the 50", so if you are planning a freestanding 50" installation, call us before you order and we will check the current options with Majestic.

Can the Majestic Cottagewood burn gas instead of wood?

Yes. All three sizes include dual gas knockouts, and Majestic makes outdoor burners for the Cottagewood in several lengths for both propane and natural gas. Bi-fold stainless steel glass doors are available separately if you want to close the opening.
