Majestic Castlewood Outdoor Fireplaces
The Majestic Castlewood is an open wood burning fireplace built for patios, outdoor kitchens and backyard walls, with the same 38 inch tall firebox opening that defines the indoor Majestic Ashland. It comes in two sizes, 42" and 50", each with a steel grate, outside air kit, dual gas knockouts and a stainless steel safety firescreen.

Accessories for an outdoor build
An outdoor hearth usually needs more than the fireplace itself. We stock an outdoor gas drain pan sized to each Castlewood, bronze outdoor glass bi-fold doors for both the 42" and the 50", and decorative brick interior panels in traditional or herringbone patterns and several colors. Everything listed is on this page.
The outdoor counterpart to the Ashland
The Castlewood and the indoor Majestic Ashland share the same tall 38" firebox opening and the same 74-1/2" framing height, so they read as one family across an indoor and outdoor project. At 50" they are dimensionally identical, which means a wall drawn for one will take the other.
Two differences are worth knowing before you plan. The Castlewood is made in 42" and 50" only, so there is no outdoor match for the Ashland 36. And at 42" the two are close but not identical: the Castlewood frames 1/8" shallower and its opening is 1/8" narrower. On a tight build, check the figure for the model you are actually buying.

What size opening do I need to frame for a Majestic Castlewood?
The Castlewood 42 needs a rough opening of 53-7/8" wide by 74-1/2" high by 28-3/8" deep. The 50 needs 61-7/8" by 74-1/2" by 28-1/2". Frame to those numbers rather than to the front width, which is an inch narrower in both sizes.
Does the Castlewood come in a 36 inch size?
No. The Castlewood is made in 42" and 50" only. If you need a 36" open wood burning fireplace, the indoor Majestic Ashland is offered in that width, but it is listed for interior installation and is not an outdoor substitute.
What is the difference between the Castlewood and the Ashland?
Where they go. The Castlewood is built for outdoor installation and the Ashland for indoor, and both share the 38" tall firebox opening. At 50" the two are dimensionally identical. At 42" the Castlewood frames 1/8" shallower with an opening 1/8" narrower, and the Ashland is additionally available in 36", which the Castlewood is not.
Does the Majestic Castlewood need a drain pan?
Majestic makes an outdoor gas drain pan sized to each Castlewood. Whether your build needs one depends on how exposed the fireplace will be, so tell us about the site and we will confirm the full parts list before you order.
Can the Majestic Castlewood burn gas instead of wood?
Both sizes include dual gas knockouts, so a gas line can be run to the firebox at installation. Tell us how you intend to use it before you order and we will confirm the correct burner and any outdoor-rated parts for your model.
