Dimplex Sierra Linear Electric Fireplace
The Dimplex Sierra Linear Electric Fireplace comes in three sizes — 48" (SIL48), 60" (SIL60) and 72" (SIL72), Dimplex order numbers X-SIL48, X-SIL60 and X-SIL72. It is the most adaptable fireplace in the Dimplex range and the least expensive way into a genuinely wide linear flame.
Adaptable because it installs three ways: recessed into the wall, hung on the wall surface, or simply stood on a table or console. Nothing has to be cut for the last two. That makes the Sierra the one to reach for in a rental, a room you are not ready to commit to, or a space where the fireplace may want to move later.
The firebox ships with three separate media sets — logs, crystals and pebbles — so you can change the whole character of the fire without buying anything, and there are eight ember-bed colours behind them.

Will It Fit? Rough Opening by Size
The Sierra has two sets of dimensions and it is worth understanding both, because Dimplex's own manual and sell sheet quote different ones and it looks like a contradiction if you are not expecting it. The face is the full decorative front you see. The insertion envelope is the smaller box that actually goes through the hole. Frame for the opening, then check the face will cover it.

The number that catches people out is the depth. The in-wall opening needs 6 1/2". A 2x6 stud wall gives you only 5 1/2" of actual depth, so a 2x6 is not enough — you need a 2x8 wall, a furred-out wall, or a bump-out. If your wall is already framed in 2x6, surface mounting is the straightforward answer and needs no cutting at all.
Note also that the model names are the face width, not the opening: a "48-inch" Sierra needs a 41 5/8" hole and shows you 40" of flame.

Worth knowing: the heater is the same 1,400 W in all three sizes. Going up to the 72" buys you a much wider flame, not more heat. If heat is what you are after rather than the look, a bigger Sierra will not give you it — talk to us about the IgniteXL or Ignite Bold lines instead, which offer a 240 V option.

Dimplex does not publish a ceiling clearance or a maximum mounting height for the Sierra, and we are not going to invent one. If you are planning a TV or a shelf directly above it, call us and we will get a position confirmed with Dimplex before you commit.
This is an indoor appliance. The owner's guide states "Do not use outdoors."

About that warranty. One year is the shortest term Dimplex offers and the shortest we carry — most of the Dimplex range is two years, and the Ignite lines run to five. We would rather you knew that up front than found out later. It reflects where the Sierra sits in the range: it is the value model, and it is priced accordingly.

The owner's manual also covers a 96" SIL96 and the SIL48M and SIL60M variants. None of those are in Dimplex's current price list, so we do not stock them — if you need a 96", call us and we will check availability.
Warranty
1 YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY. Dimplex warrants this product free from defects in material and workmanship for 12 months from the date of first purchase. Download the Dimplex warranty document. Note that Dimplex excludes Hawaii, Alaska, Yukon, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories from warranty coverage.
