Dimplex Prism Linear Electric Fireplace
The Dimplex Prism Linear Electric Fireplace comes in three sizes — 34" (BLF3451), 50" (BLF5051) and 74" (BLF7451), Dimplex order numbers X-BLF3451, X-BLF5051 and X-BLF7451. It pairs vibrant LED flame with a sparkling acrylic crystal ember bed, and seven colour themes let you set it to almost anything from a warm amber to a cold electric blue.
The reason installers keep coming back to the Prism is the depth. The box is only 7 1/4" deep, so you have genuine choice about how far into the wall it goes: surface mount it with no framing at all, partially recess it into an ordinary 2x4 stud wall, or bury it flush in a 2x8. Very few linear fireplaces give you all three, and the partial-recess option in particular saves a bump-out on the 34" and 50" models.
Key Features
-
Prism Flame Effect
Seven colour themes, or cycle continuously through the Prism spectrum and stop on the hue you want.
-
Acrylic Crystal Ember Bed
Contemporary acrylic media that catches and throws the LED light, rather than imitating logs.
-
Three Installation Depths
Surface mount, partial recess into 2x4, or fully flush into 2x8. The 74" is flush or surface mount only.
-
Flame Without Heat
Run the flame effect year-round with the heater switched off.
-
Fan-Forced Supplemental Heat
Thermostatically controlled, with a built-in timer.
-
Multi-Function Remote
Full control of flame, colour, heat and timer from across the room.
-
No Venting Required
No chimney, gas line or flue — just a dedicated circuit.
Will It Fit? Rough Opening by Size
The Prism gives you two framed openings to choose between on the 34" and 50", and they are different sizes. Frame for the one you actually want:
| |
34" — BLF3451 |
50" — BLF5051 |
74" — BLF7451 |
| Framing, partial recess (2x4 wall) |
30 1/2" W x 16 1/2" H
(77.5 x 41.9 cm) |
46 1/2" W x 16 1/2" H
(118.1 x 41.9 cm) |
Not offered — flush or surface mount only |
| Framing, fully recessed (2x8 wall) |
33" W x 18 1/2" H
(83.8 x 47 cm) |
49" W x 18 1/2" H
(124.5 x 47 cm) |
73" W x 18 1/2" H
(185.4 x 47 cm) |
| Appliance (W x H x D) |
34 1/4" x 19 1/2" x 7 1/4" |
50 3/8" x 19 1/2" x 7 1/4" |
74 1/4" x 19 1/2" x 7 1/4" |
| Viewing height |
10 1/2" (26.8 cm) |
10 3/4" (27.6 cm) |
10 5/8" (27.0 cm) |
Two things worth knowing. First, the appliance face is wider than either opening in every size — that overlap is what hides the cut edge, so do not frame to the appliance width. Second, Dimplex publishes only a viewing height for this series, not a viewing width; we have not invented one.
Electrical Requirements

2,430 W — 8,290 BTU/h |
| Circuit |
Dedicated, properly fused 15 A circuit |
| Connection |
Plug-in or hardwired |
Plug-in or hardwired |
Hardwired, or plug-in with the optional BLF7451-PLUG-KIT |
The 74" is the only Prism that can be wired for 240 V, and doing so roughly doubles the heat — 8,290 BTU/h against 4,197. If heat matters to you and the run allows it, wire the 74" for 240 V. If you would rather plug it in, we stock the BLF7451-PLUG-KIT, but note it is a 120 V connection, so it forfeits the higher heat output.
Clearances and Mounting
| Minimum clearance above the fireplace to the ceiling |
4" (10.2 cm) |
| Maximum mounting height, recessed — base above the floor |
40" (102 cm) |
| Recommended surface-mount height, 74" model |
56" (142 cm) off the ground |
That 4" ceiling clearance is unusually tight — most linear electrics want 24" — which makes the Prism a real option for a low ceiling or a soffit. But note the maximum mounting height of 40": this is a fireplace Dimplex wants installed low, not above a mantel at eye level. If you are planning a high installation or a TV above it, call us first.
This is an indoor appliance. All three owner's guides state "Do not use outdoors."
