Empire Blackburn 54" Wood Burning Firebox
The Empire Blackburn 54" (model number WB5412FB0F) is an indoor wood burning fireplace firebox, listed to UL 127, with a 54" wide by 34" high opening. It vents through Empire's 12" chimney system; a firescreen, grate and attic insulation shield come with it.
Per the manual it needs refractory brick liners (herringbone, traditional or smooth panels appear in the parts list), a non-combustible hearth extension, the chimney sections and a termination cap. Ask us about the liner panels, the WB54HE hearth extension and the WBOAK outside air kit.

Installation Requirements

Location: inside the warm, insulated part of the house for better draft; away from doors, walkways and air returns. Not approved for manufactured housing.

Clearances: at least 1 1/2" of air space to combustibles at the back and sides, the opening at least 24" from a sidewall, and non-combustible materials in front as the manual shows. Do not pack air spaces with insulation.

Mantel: at least 18" above the opening and no more than 10" deep; other mantel and wall projections per the manual.

Chimney: only the Empire 12" chimney components listed in the manual: at least 20 ft tall (22 ft with two offsets), 90 ft maximum, no more than two pairs of 30° or smaller offsets, with a 2" air space to insulation and framing around the chimney and a firestop wherever it passes through a ceiling or floor.

Hearth extension: required; build it as the manual shows for a flush or raised firebox.

Doors and gas logs: run with optional glass doors fully open or fully closed. A gas log set or insert must be one tested with this firebox; with a gas log set, keep the damper fully open and meet the National Fuel Gas Code.

Installation: must be installed by a qualified installer per the installation manual and local codes.

Empire limited warranty, from the warranty section of the installation manual:
- Combustion chamber: limited lifetime parts, with 5 years limited labor
- Venting: 10 years parts
- Accessories and parts, including handles, glass and cast refractory panels: 1 year parts
The warranty is for the original purchaser. Travel, diagnostic and freight charges and removal and reinstallation costs are not covered. Full terms are in the warranty section of the installation manual.
