Summerset built-in gas grill in a stone and wood outdoor kitchen island on a backyard patio at sunset

Summerset Grills Compared: Sizzler vs Sizzler Pro vs TRL Pro vs Resort vs Quest

Summerset makes five built-in gas grill series: the Sizzler, Sizzler Pro, TRL Pro, Resort and Quest. They run from $1,699 to $5,699, and every one carries the same Gold Standard Lifetime Warranty. What changes as you move up is the grade of stainless steel, the burners, whether there is an infrared rotisserie burner, the lighting and how much comes in the box. This guide puts all eleven grills in one chart so you can see where the money goes.

The difference in one paragraph

The Sizzler is the value grill: #443 stainless, 12,000 BTU tube burners, no rear burner and no electrical power needed. The Sizzler Pro keeps the same body and adds 14,000 BTU cast stainless burners, a 15,000 BTU infrared rotisserie burner, a briquette system and lighting. The TRL Pro steps up to #304 stainless, 20,000 BTU U-tube burners and an included rotisserie kit. The Resort is a 30" #304 grill built for condos, rentals and shared grilling areas, with anti-theft knobs and no electrical power needed. The Quest is the flagship, with waterfall LED lighting, a 16" hood and a griddle plate, smoker box, rib rack and rotisserie kit included.

Summerset Sizzler: the most grill for the money

The Sizzler is the entry point to the lineup. It is built from #443 stainless steel with #304 stainless tube burners at 12,000 BTU each, 8mm round grates and #443 stainless flame tamers under a 16 gauge double-lined hood. It has piezo ignition with a manual flash tube backup and is listed as needing no electrical power, so you do not need an outlet in the island. The 32" and 40" also have anti-theft knobs, and Summerset lists the Sizzler as friendly for multi-family and commercial use as well as home outdoor kitchens.

What it does not have is a rear infrared burner or lights. A rotisserie kit, a drop-in infrared sear burner and a griddle plate are all optional add-ons. The 25" needs only a 23 1/4" wide cutout, so it suits a compact island.

Summerset Sizzler Pro: the Sizzler with a rotisserie burner and lights

The Sizzler Pro uses the same #443 stainless body, the same 8mm round grates and the same cutout as the Sizzler in the same width, so the 32" and 40" can drop into the same island opening. The upgrades are inside: 14,000 BTU #202 cast stainless burners, a 15,000 BTU infrared back burner for rotisserie cooking, an easy-clean ceramic briquette system with heat-zone separators, halogen interior lights and LED knob lighting with white-to-red bezels that show which burners are on. The rotisserie kit itself is still optional.

For $900 more than a Sizzler 32", the Sizzler Pro 32" adds 23,000 BTU of total output, the rear burner and the lighting.

Summerset TRL Pro: #304 stainless and a rotisserie in the box

The TRL Pro is the first step into #304 stainless steel, the grade used on the TRL Pro, Resort and Quest. Its #304 U-tube burners are rated 20,000 BTU each, well above the Sizzler and Sizzler Pro, with a 15,000 BTU infrared back burner and a rotisserie kit with a 40 lb motor included. It cooks on 8mm square stainless grates over a ceramic briquette system with heat-zone separators, and it adds a spring-assisted double-lined hood and flame thrower ignition.

Note the burner count: the TRL Pro 32" has three main burners and the 40" has four, one fewer than the Sizzler and Sizzler Pro in the same width, because each burner is larger. Its cutout is 9 3/8" high instead of 8", so it is not a direct swap for a Sizzler opening. Optional extras include a drop-in infrared sear burner, a smoker tray and a griddle plate.

Summerset Resort: built for shared spaces

The Resort 30" is designed for condos, apartment complexes, rentals and other places where a lot of people use one grill. It pairs #304 stainless construction with two 25,000 BTU #304 U-tube burners, the thickest grates in the lineup at 9mm, heavy-duty 14-gauge flame tamers and an 18 and 16 gauge double-lined hood. Heavy-duty anti-theft knobs and flame thrower ignition are standard, it is listed as needing no electrical power, and an LP conversion kit is included. There is no rear burner, lighting or rotisserie option, which keeps it simple for shared use. A pedestal cart is available for a stand-alone install.

Summerset Quest: the flagship

The Quest is Summerset's top grill and the most complete out of the box. It uses #304 stainless steel with 18,000 BTU #304 U-tube burners, a 13,000 BTU angled infrared back burner, 8mm square grates and a ceramic briquette system with heat-zone separators. The look is what sets it apart: a waterfall LED strip across the front panel, white-to-red bezel knob lighting, halogen interior lights, a full-width handle and a 16" high double-lined, spring-assisted hood.

Every Quest includes a stainless drop-in griddle plate, a smoker box, a rib rack, a rotisserie kit with a 40 lb motor and multi-position warming racks, and the 36" and 42" also list a weatherproof vinyl cover. If you would buy those accessories anyway for another series, add their cost before you compare prices.

Carts, side burners and griddles

Every series can also go on a cart if you are not building an island. The Sizzler, Sizzler Pro and TRL Pro have standard and deluxe carts, the Quest has a deluxe cart, and the Resort has a pedestal cart.

To finish an outdoor kitchen, Summerset also makes a 30" Pro Series built-in gas griddle and single, double and Pro double side burners. You can see them all in our Summerset collection.

So which Summerset grill should you buy?

Choose the Sizzler if you want a solid built-in grill at the lowest price, or if there is no power at the island. It is also the right pick for a compact 25" opening.

Choose the Sizzler Pro if you want rotisserie cooking and night lighting without moving up to #304 steel. It is the best value in the lineup for most backyard cooks.

Choose the TRL Pro if you want #304 stainless, 20,000 BTU burners and a rotisserie kit included, for not much more than a Sizzler Pro of the same width.

Choose the Resort for a condo, rental, HOA pool area or any grill that many people will share.

Choose the Quest if the grill is the centerpiece of your outdoor kitchen and you want the lighting, the taller hood and the accessories included.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the Summerset Sizzler and Sizzler Pro?

Both use #443 stainless steel, 8mm round grates and the same cutout in the same width. The Sizzler Pro adds 14,000 BTU cast stainless burners (the Sizzler has 12,000 BTU tube burners), a 15,000 BTU infrared rotisserie burner, a ceramic briquette system, halogen interior lights and LED knob lighting. The Sizzler needs no electrical power. The Sizzler Pro does not come in a 25".

What is the difference between #304 and #443 stainless steel?

Both are stainless grades Summerset uses for its grills. #304 is the grade used on the TRL Pro, Resort and Quest, and on the burners of every series except the Sizzler Pro. #443 is used on the body of the Sizzler and Sizzler Pro. Both are covered by the same Gold Standard Lifetime Warranty on stainless construction. If your grill will sit near salt water or pool chemicals, call us and we can talk through the options.

Which Summerset grills work without electricity?

The Sizzler and the Resort are listed as needing no electrical power. The Sizzler Pro, TRL Pro and Quest have interior and knob lighting, so plan for power at the island; the installation manual on each product page has the details.

Do Summerset grills come in natural gas and propane?

Yes. Every grill in this guide is sold in a natural gas or a liquid propane version. Choose the fuel when you order.

What warranty do Summerset grills have?

Every series has Summerset's Gold Standard Lifetime Warranty on the stainless steel construction, cooking grates, burners, valves and flame tamers, plus 3 years on all other parts and electrical components. Coverage is for replacement parts, and you need to register within 30 days of purchase.

Can I swap a Sizzler for a Sizzler Pro in the same island?

In the 32" and 40" widths the Sizzler and Sizzler Pro list the same cutout dimensions, 30 5/8" or 37 3/4" wide by 20 3/4" deep by 8" high. The TRL Pro, Resort and Quest each use a different cutout, so check the product page before you build or replace.
