This remarkably proportioned wood fireplace will become the centerpiece of your home. Its perfect rectangle gives it a sober and modern look while still providing a warm ambiance to the room. Understated yet large, it leaves plenty of room for the beauty of the flames.
Its glass guillotine door slides effortlessly and provides plenty of space for loading wood — logs up to 30" in a 6.4 cubic foot firebox. The fire screen, also fitted with a guillotine mechanism, allows you to safely enjoy the warmth of an open fire.
What kind of fireplace is this? The St. Laurent is a decorative wood fireplace, not an EPA-certified wood heater. It is safety tested and listed to UL 127 by an accredited laboratory, and it is exempt from EPA wood-heater certification — so it carries no published efficiency, emissions or burn-time rating. Valcourt recommends it for spaces under 1,000 sq ft and states that a primary heat source should be available in the home, with this unit serving as a supplementary heat source. Choose the St. Laurent for the look of a wide linear open fire; if you need the appliance to carry a heating load, look at the EPA-certified Lafayette II, Mundo II or Waterloo instead.
The St-Laurent FP16D needs a trim and brick panels to be complete. Choose from each required group below.
Osburn and Valcourt are both built by SBI and share many parts, so some links below open our Osburn listing for the same part number.

Optional:
| Framing lumber | 2" x 3" (5 cm x 8 cm) or heavier |
| Clear height above the fireplace base, no combustibles | 84" (2.13 m) |
| Minimum chimney height, from the bottom of the fireplace to the chimney top | 15' (4.5 m) |
| Chimney type | Factory-built metal (UL 103 HT) or masonry |
| Side walls, measured from the door opening | 24" (610 mm) minimum |
| Above the door opening | 8 1/2" (216 mm) minimum |
| Front wall | 48" minimum |
| Ceiling, measured from the base of the fireplace | 84" (2.13 m) minimum |
| Enclosure — back, sides and floor beneath the fireplace | 0" (zero clearance) |
| Hearth extension in front of the opening | 20" (51 cm) minimum |
| Hearth extension each side of the opening | 12" (30.4 cm) minimum |
Two figures to plan around: the 24" side wall clearance from a 44 1/2" door opening means the St. Laurent wants roughly 8 ft of wall, and the hearth extension adds 20" of non-combustible floor in front. Both are easy to under-budget on a linear fireplace of this width.
