HPC 24" Square Bowl Pan Push Button Flame Sensing Fire Pit

The HPC 24" Square Bowl Pan Push Button Flame Sensing Fire Pit is a drop-in gas burner for a custom fire pit: a 24" x 24" 304 stainless steel square bowl pan with an 18" Penta burner, rated at 125,000 BTU in HPC's price list (150,000 BTU in HPC's drawing) with push-button spark ignition and a flame-sensing pilot. It needs no electricity (the spark igniter runs on a AA battery). Model numbers are FPPK24-SQBL-FLEX-NG for natural gas and FPPK24-SQBL-FLEX-LP for propane on fixed piping. A small tank version (FPPK24-SQBL-FLEX-LP-ST) runs from a 20 lb or 30 lb propane cylinder at 90,000 BTU.

It is certified for outdoor use.

What to Order With It

The insert comes with the control box and a 36" gas flex line; the small tank version also comes with the regulator and hose assembly and a tank mounting bracket.

Required (choose one):

• HPC 1/4" Decorative Fire Pit Glass - 10 lb. Box (FPGLBLACK, FPGLCLEAR and 8 other colors): cover the burner with 1/4" to 1/2" of glass
• HPC Black Lava Rock Nuggets for Fire Pits - 1/2 Cubic Foot (657): only deep enough to cover the burner
• HPC Black Rolled Lava Stones for Fire Pits - 1/2 Cubic Foot Bag (857S or 857M): only deep enough to cover the burner

Required for the small tank version:

• A 20 lb or 30 lb propane cylinder with a QCC1 valve and overfill protection device, bought locally

Required on a wood or composite deck:

• HPC Deck Insulation Kit (FPI-DECK20SQ, 19.6" square, or FPI-DECK39SQ, 39.3" square) with locally bought paver stones

HPC's price list gives 125,000 BTU for this model and its drawing gives 150,000 BTU, so contact us to confirm before you size the gas line.

The pan drops into the opening and rests on its 1-1/2" lip. HPC's drawing gives a recommended enclosure size but no separate cutout size, so check the drawing with your installer and contact us before you cut.

Installation Notes

• Outdoor use only, installed above grade where water drains away.
• Set the pan at least 2" below the top of the enclosure to protect the flame from wind, and let the pan carry the weight, not the valve.
• Venting: an enclosure needs at least two vents of 18 sq in each on opposite sides.
• Leave at least 2" below the valve for air and drainage, and don't fill the space around it with gravel, rock or concrete.
• Clearances: 36" from the sides to structures or combustibles (12" to noncombustible materials) and 84" overhead, from HPC's clearance figure for push-button fire pits up to 250,000 BTU.
• Put a gas shutoff on the outside of the enclosure, and keep the fire pit covered when it isn't in use.
• Small tank version: keep the propane cylinder in its own ventilated enclosure at least 54" from the fire pit, secured with the supplied bracket, and use only the supplied regulator and hose.
• Use only lava rock or decorative glass over the burner, and don't cover the vents of the pilot's blowout box. Propane installs with glass must be checked for back pressure with the media in place.
• The gas connections should be installed and leak-checked by a qualified gas installer, and checked again every year.

Warranty

HPC limited warranty for residential use: lifetime on the stainless steel burner, 5 years on the stainless steel pan and valve box, 3 years on the electronics and gas valve, and 2 years on the pilot assembly. For commercial use the pan, valve box, electronics, gas valve and pilot assembly are covered for 1 year. The warranty covers parts and labor at HPC on items returned with an HPC return authorization. It does not cover installation or maintenance labor, or damage from overheating, modification or misuse. The full terms are in the warranty section of the installation manual below.
