Installation Requirements

  • Clearances to combustibles: back 0", sides 2", floor 0", top framing edge 0". Keep at least 6" from the fireplace opening to a perpendicular side wall.
  • Ceiling: at least 35" from the top of the fireplace opening to the ceiling.
  • Mantel: a combustible mantel can project 2" at 12" above the fireplace opening, up to 12" at 22"; follow the mantel chart in the installation manual.
  • Facing: only non-combustible material may finish the face of the fireplace; the non-combustible board goes over the appliance as the manual shows.
  • Framing: use 2 x 4 lumber or heavier.
  • Venting: 5" x 8" direct vent from the top only (rear venting is not allowed), with at least 12" of vertical pipe before any horizontal run. Horizontal runs follow the vent graph in the manual, up to 18 ft, less 18" for each 45° elbow and 36" for each 90° elbow in the horizontal run; no more than three 90° and two 45° elbows. Island and room-divider installs need at least 8 ft of vertical rise for an 18 ft horizontal run.
  • Power: a 120V, 60Hz, 1 A supply, entering on the right side. A battery backup pack lets the fireplace run in a power outage; the accent light and blower will not run without power.
  • Installation: must be installed by a qualified installer per the installation manual and local codes. In Massachusetts the installation must be done by a licensed plumber or gas fitter.
