Empire Carol Rose 60" Outdoor Linear Gas Fireplace

The Empire Carol Rose 60" puts a long, low gas flame in an outdoor wall: a stainless steel linear fireplace that burns over a bed of crushed glass, with LED lights set under the glass.

It is rated up to 65,000 Btu/hr on natural gas (model number OLL60FP12SN) or propane (OLL60FP12SP), lights with a manual valve and a push-button igniter, and is for outdoor use only. Clear frost crushed glass is required and ordered separately.

The Empire Carol Rose 60": An Outdoor Linear Fireplace for a Patio Wall

The opening is 60" x 16 3/16" inside a 63 3/4" x 30 7/8" stainless face, and the rough opening is 64" wide, 31" high and 19 1/4" deep. It suits a patio, a covered porch or a seating area along an outside wall of the house.

The LED lights under the glass run from a 120V GFI outlet on the valve side, and the igniter runs on the included AA battery. The fireplace ships with wind deflector glass and non-combustible facing panels, and it should be sheltered from direct wind.

Installation Requirements

  • Location: outdoor use only, on a patio, in a yard, on a covered porch, in a gazebo or on an outside wall of a house; never inside a building, garage or other enclosed area. A porch needs at least 96 sq ft of floor area and a 90" ceiling. It cannot open to the inside of a house. A partial enclosure must have either walls on all sides with no overhead cover, an overhead cover with no more than two side walls, or an overhead cover with three side walls and at least 30% of the perimeter permanently open (more if the open side is screened). Shelter it from direct wind.
  • Clearances: at least 6" from the inside of the fireplace to a combustible side wall; at least 24" from the top of the opening to the ceiling. In an alcove, the alcove must be at least 72" wide and no more than 24" deep.
  • Mantel: a combustible mantel must meet the mantel chart in the installation manual.
  • Support and drainage: set the fireplace on a frame or supports that touch all four bottom edges at least 3 1/2" above the floor. Water must be able to drain away from the unit; the optional drain tray needs about 6" more enclosure height.
  • Power: a 120V GFI outlet outside the fireplace on the valve side for the LED lights.
  • Installation: must be installed by a qualified installer per the installation manual and local codes. In Massachusetts the installation must be done by a licensed plumber or gas fitter.

Make It Yours: Glass, Liner and Weather Gear

Clear frost crushed glass forms the bed and carries the LED glow. Mix in bronze reflective, copper reflective, black polished or blue clear glass, and set onyx glass drops or glacier ice droplets on top, out of the flame.

A black glass reflective liner (OL60RB) is optional. For wind and rain, add the stainless weather door (WD60LSS), deflector glass for windy areas (WG60LT1) and the stainless drain tray (DT48LSS). The E-Stop gas timer (1 to 60 minutes) has its own stainless compartment.

FAQs

Which Carol Rose is right for me?

The 60" is a linear outdoor fireplace rated up to 65,000 Btu/hr. The Carol Rose outdoor line comes in three styles. The linear fireplaces (48", 60" and 72", single-sided or see-through) frame into an outdoor wall and burn over crushed glass with built-in LED lights. The linear fire pits (48" and 60", with or without multicolor LED lights) drop into a table, island or base you build. The Premium 36" and 42" are traditional outdoor ventless fireplaces with a refractory liner and Wildwood logs, in millivolt or intermittent ignition (IP) models.

What do I need to order with it?

Clear frost crushed glass, 10 bags for the 60" (one bag covers about 1 sq ft). Accent glass, the liner, a weather door, deflector glass, the drain tray and the gas timer are optional.

Can it go on a covered porch?

Yes, within limits. It is for outdoor use only, never inside a building, garage or other enclosed area. A porch needs at least 96 sq ft of floor area and a 90" ceiling and cannot open to the inside of a house, and a covered space must stay partly open; the Installation Requirements above list the full rules.

Does it need electricity?

Only for the LED lights, which need a 120V GFI outlet outside the fireplace on the valve side. The igniter runs on the included AA battery.

How big is the framing?

64" wide, 31" high and 19 1/4" deep.
