Empire 3-Sided Metal Surrounds for Medium/Large Innsbrook Fireplace Inserts
The Empire steel surrounds on this page (model numbers DS2663BL, DS2666BL, DS2696BL, DS2863BL, DS2866BL and DS2896BL in matte black, and the same sizes in bronze, DS2663BZ to DS2896BZ) are the 3-sided, 1" deep surrounds for the medium (DVC26IN) and large (DVC28IN) Innsbrook direct-vent fireplace inserts.
Each comes with a 6" top and 3" legs, a 6" top and 6" legs, or a 9" top and 6" legs. A steel surround is the one to choose if you want a Lancaster, Transom or Horizon decorative front, or a bottom cover.

Installation Notes

Required: the Innsbrook direct-vent insert must be installed with a surround. Choose a steel surround or the cast iron surround; only the steel surrounds take a decorative front or a bottom cover.

Installation: the surround goes on after the insert is in place and the gas, vent and electrical connections are made. Secure it to the insert flanges with four #8 x 1/2" truss head screws, two on each side. The surround has a knockout for the on/off switch.

Fireplace vents: Empire says its surrounds, shrouds and decorative fronts are approved to cover the air circulation vents or grills on the existing fireplace, but the ventilation openings on the insert itself must not be sealed with trim panels or surrounds.

Combustibles: no combustible material may be placed behind the surround or the insert. Combustible mantels and trim on a masonry fireplace must stay 12" above the opening for projections over 1 1/2" and 6" for smaller projections, so plan the surround size with that in mind.

Larger openings: Empire's price list says to choose a surround that covers the fireplace opening and to add the SH1BL shroud with a surround for a larger opening.

Bottom cover: add the matching bottom cover when the surround does not reach the floor (the insert sits above the floor).
