Empire 18" Super Sassafras Refractory Log Set
The Empire 18" Super Sassafras log set (model number LS18RSS) is a set of refractory gas logs for Empire's 18" slope glaze burners: the vent-free VFSR, VFSV, VFSE and VFSM, or the vented VSR. This listing is the logs only; an 18" slope glaze burner is required and ordered separately.
Empire log sets for slope glaze burners comply with ANSI Z21.11.2 for unvented heaters and ANSI Z21.60 for vented decorative appliances, so the set can run vent-free or vented, depending on the burner you choose and your local codes.

Installation Requirements
Log placement: each log pins onto the burner in the position shown in the log set manual. Logs that do not sit firmly, or that are misformed or have loose pin holes, must be replaced.
Embers and lava rock: rock wool embers go on the front portion of the burner only; decorative lava rock goes on the firebox floor only, never on the burner.
Glass doors: keep any glass doors fully open while the fire is burning.
Soot: a properly installed set does not soot; if soot appears on a log, stop using it and call for service.
Codes: some state or local codes allow log sets only in a vented configuration; check yours. Vent-free installs must meet the burner's room size and bedroom/bathroom rules.
Installation: must be installed by a qualified installer per the burner and log set manuals and local codes. In Massachusetts the installation must be done by a licensed plumber or gas fitter.
