The Dimplex Standard 39" Built-in Electric Firebox (model BF39STP) is the value build of Dimplex's traditional built-in firebox — the same shell, the same opening and the same heat output as the Deluxe, at a lower price. It sits flush against the wall for a clean built-in look, and it takes the same trim and door kits.
Like the rest of the BF line it is built for commercial work as much as domestic: cool-touch glass, no flue, no fuel, and compliance with the strictest building codes.
We stock the 39" in both builds, and the choice is purely about how the firebox looks when it is lit:
Identical framed opening, identical electrical, identical heat. If the fireplace will be seen close up and lit often, the Deluxe earns its premium. If it is going into a rental, an office or a room where it is mostly ambience at a distance, the Standard is the sensible buy.
Most electric fireplaces are a 120 V supplemental heater and nothing more. The BF series can be wired to 240 V, and at that voltage it produces 9,213 BTU — nearly double what a standard 1,500 W electric fireplace manages, and enough that Dimplex positions it as part of a primary heating plan rather than a top-up.
Decide this before your electrician roughs in. Converting later means pulling a new circuit.
| Framed opening width | 39" (99.1 cm) |
| Framed opening height | 32 7/8" (83.6 cm) |
| Framed opening depth | 16" (40.5 cm) |
| Firebox dimensions (W x H x D) | 38 3/4" x 32 3/4" x 15 3/8" (98.3 x 83.0 x 38.9 cm) |
| Viewing area (W x H) | 35 5/8" x 22 1/4" (90.5 x 56.5 cm) |
| Installation height | Floor level or mid-wall |
Note that the firebox is smaller than the opening in every direction. Unlike a linear fireplace with a built-in flange, this one drops into the hole and leaves a gap — the BF4TRIM39 trim kit or one of the door kits is what covers that gap. Budget for one of them; the firebox on its own does not finish the opening.
At 16" of framing depth this needs a purpose-built chase or a masonry opening — it will not go into any stud wall.
| Voltage options | 120 V, 208 V or 240 V |
| Flame only, no heat | 245 W, 2.0 A |
| 120 V with heat | 1,440 W, 12.0 A — 4,913 BTU/h |
| 240 V with heat | 2,700 W, 11.25 A — 9,213 BTU/h |
| Connection | Hardwired to a dedicated circuit, or the optional BFPLUGE plug kit |
That 245 W flame-only figure is worth noticing: running this fireplace for the look alone costs about as much as a couple of light bulbs.
The BF series is a zero-clearance design, with one exception. From the installation guide: insulation and vapour barrier must be kept a minimum of 2" (5.1 cm) from the top of the unit, and no combustibles may be placed on the top surface of the fireplace. Everywhere else, framing can come right up to it.

Two notes on the documents, because both will confuse an installer.
First, the Installation Guide and the Service Manual are the same Dimplex part number (7206350500) at two revisions. R10 is the current one but is installation only — Dimplex removed the service content from it. R09 is older but is the only version carrying the exploded parts diagram, component replacement procedures and the troubleshooting guide. Take framing and wiring figures from R10; take parts and repair from R09.
Second, Dimplex's BF sell sheets label the three framing dimensions A, B and C, and the labels are transposed — the sheets print the framed opening width as though it were the depth. The figures on this page come from the installation guide and the 3-part architectural spec, which have it right.
