Dimplex Ignite Bold 74" Linear Electric Fireplace
The Dimplex Ignite Bold 74" Linear Electric Fireplace (model XLF7417-XD, Dimplex order number X-XLF7417-XD) is the deep, three-sided member of the Ignite range — front glass plus two side glass panels, with a mirrored rear pane that doubles the apparent depth of the flame. Dimplex previously sold this range as IgniteXL® Bold; the name changed, the model codes did not.
Everything needed for five different installations is in the one box: front-facing, left corner, right corner, bay, and modular runs of several units linked together. Open side trim shows the side glass; closed side trim blanks it off.

Two things the framer needs to know. This fireplace is not load-bearing — frame the opening so the weight of the wall above never rests on the top of the unit. And the power comes in at the top right back corner of the firebox, so plan the cable route before the wall closes.
A note on that framing width. Dimplex's installation guide gives 74 5/8", which is what we have published, because it is the document that ships with the unit and it is consistent with the trim overlap. Their 3-part architectural spec prints 74 1/8" — half an inch narrower. If you are cutting to the tighter figure, call us first and we will confirm against the unit we are shipping you. We have asked Dimplex to reconcile the two.
For a modular run of several units, the framed width is simply the sum of the unit widths; the linking brackets come in the XLFXDLINK kit, which we stock.

Note the 12.5 A draw at 120 V against a 15 A circuit — this needs its own dedicated circuit, not a shared one. The 74" draws no more than the 50" does; the heater output is the same across the range.

That last figure is the one people ask about when planning a TV above the fireplace, and the Bold measures it closer in than most — 7" rather than 10". It holds only if the heater inlet and outlet stay unobstructed. Check your TV manufacturer's own ambient temperature limit as well.
Installing Outdoors
The Ignite Bold is certified for outdoor installation under a shelter — never open to the weather. Dimplex sets a specific rule for the shelter: the height above the fireplace must be no more than three times the depth the shelter projects, measured from the bottom of the fireplace to the bottom edge of the overhang, and from the exposed face of the fireplace to the parallel edge of the overhang. So an overhang 9 ft above the fireplace has to extend at least 3 ft outwards on every side. A ground-fault protected circuit is recommended, and outdoor units should be inspected seasonally rather than yearly.
Warranty differs by location: 5 years indoor, 1 year outdoor. One caution — the copy of the installation guide circulating on retail sites is revision R09, which predates the outdoor certification and still says not to use the fireplace outdoors. The current revision (R10) covers it. If you are installing outdoors, ask us for the current guide rather than working from whichever PDF a search turns up.
