The Dimplex Optimyst RGB Pro Box 40" (model CBX1000-AM, Dimplex order number 500004329) is the flagship of the Optimyst range. Ultrasonic transducers atomise water into an ultra-fine mist and RGB LEDs light it from below, so what rises off the log set is real three-dimensional vapour that rolls and curls the way smoke does — because it is behaving like smoke.
Where the Pro Box differs from the rest of the Optimyst line is that it is also a real heater. The e-MatriX and the Opti-Myst cassettes are flame-only; this one carries a thermostatically controlled heater rated to warm up to 1,000 sq ft, with a default set point of 21 °C and a maximum of 30 °C. You get the most convincing electric flame Dimplex makes and a fireplace that earns its place in winter.
A 60" version is available as the Optimyst RGB Pro Box 60".
This is the requirement that catches people out, and it is different from the rest of the Optimyst range. The Opti-Myst Linear fireplaces will run on normal tap water. The Pro Box will not. Dimplex's owner's manual specifies filtered or decalcified water only.
Mineral content is what kills ultrasonic transducers. Running this unit on hard tap water will scale the transducers and shorten their life, and that is not a warranty repair. Budget for an in-line filter or a softener on the supply when you plan the plumbing — not afterwards.
| Framed opening width | 44 7/8" (114.0 cm) |
| Framed opening height | 31 3/4" (80.6 cm) |
| Framed opening depth | 16 1/4" (41.3 cm) — build to this, see the note below |
| Overall size with flange (W x H) | 45 1/4" x 32 1/4" (114.8 x 82.0 cm) |
The flange overlaps the opening by roughly a quarter of an inch on each side — enough to hide a clean cut and no more. This is not a generous trim, so frame accurately.
One conflict to be aware of on the depth. Dimplex's current sell sheet gives the depth as 16 1/4"; the owner's manual gives 14 3/4". We have published the deeper figure, because a cavity that is too deep is trivially packed out and a cavity that is too shallow means the unit does not go in. If your framing is tight to the millimetre, call us before you build and we will confirm it with Dimplex.
The flame is made of water, so the unit needs a supply of it. Dimplex offers an accessory plumbing kit for a permanent connection, which is what we would recommend at this size — the Pro Box is not a fireplace you want to be refilling by hand.
Remember the filtration requirement above. Plan the filter and the shut-off into the run so the unit can be isolated for service without taking a wall apart.
| Minimum fresh air inlet area | 80 in² (516 cm²) |
Roughly a 9" x 9" free area, and it has to be designed into the surround rather than found afterwards. Sealing a vapour fireplace into an airtight cavity gives poor flame performance and damages the unit.
| Supply | Dedicated 15 A, 120 V AC circuit |
| Heater | Thermostatically controlled — default 21 °C, maximum 30 °C |
| Heating coverage | Up to 1,000 sq ft |
| Flame without heat | Yes — the vapour flame is cool and runs independently |
Dimplex specifies a full dedicated 15 A circuit for this fireplace. Do not share it.
This is an indoor appliance. The owner's guide states "Do not use outdoors." The water system rules out anywhere that can freeze.
