Dimplex Optimyst Mapleton Electric Stove
The Dimplex Optimyst Mapleton (model MPT-LS-AM, Dimplex order number 500004330) is the easiest way into Optimyst flame. Everything else in the range is a built-in that needs a framed opening, a plumber and an electrician. The Mapleton is a freestanding stove — you carry it in, plug it in, fill the water bottle and light it.
The flame is the same technology as the built-ins: ultrasonic transducers atomise water into an ultra-fine mist and LEDs light it from below, so what rises off the log set is real three-dimensional vapour that behaves like smoke, not a picture of smoke. Cast in a traditional stove body, it reads convincingly as a wood burner from across a room.
What Makes This the Easy One

No framing. It stands on the floor. Nothing is cut, nothing is built.

No plumbing. A refillable water bottle, good for 9 to 12 hours of running. Normal clean tap water is fine, and filtered water is worth using in a hard-water area.

No venting. No chimney, no flue, no gas line.

It moves. A rental, a room you are not sure about, a house you may leave — the Mapleton comes with you.
It is also the only Optimyst product a customer can install themselves in an afternoon.

That half-inch at the back is easy to lose when you push a stove against a skirting board. The air intakes are there, and blocking them starves the vapour system. Leave the gap.
This is an indoor appliance. The owner's guide states "Do not use outdoors."

Unlike the e-MatriX, which produces no usable heat at all, the Mapleton is a genuine if modest heater — 1.15 kW is about three quarters of what a plug-in electric fire delivers, and it is adjustable down to 0.6 kW for a mild evening. The flame runs independently, so you can have the fire in July with the heater off.

Nine to twelve hours is a good deal more than the six you get from the Opti-Myst Linear's refill container, so in practice this is a fill every few evenings rather than every night.
