Empire Fresh Air Kit for Keystone B-Vent Fireplaces
The Empire BVA1 (model number BVA1) is the optional fresh air kit for the Keystone B-vent fireplaces: the Keystone Deluxe 34" and 36" (BVD34FP, BVD36FP) and the Keystone Premium 42 (BVP42FP). It brings outside air to the fireplace for combustion, so the fireplace takes less air from the room.
The kit mounts on the left side of the fireplace and is connected to the outside through a 4" diameter rigid or flexible duct, supplied by the installer. It has to go in at the framing stage, before wallboard or other finish materials go up around the fireplace.

Installation Notes

When: the fireplace manual says to install the kit at the framing stage, and the kit sheet says it must go in before wallboard or other finishing materials are put up around the fireplace.

Termination: the outside air inlet can end at any level as long as it is at least 1 ft below the vent termination cap. Put the inlet hood at least 2 ft above the ground, where snow or leaves cannot block it, and seal the hood to the wall.

Air source: the manual says the outside air must not be taken from a garage, attic, basement or above the roofing where other heating appliances, fans or chimneys exhaust or draw air.

Operation: the control lever opens the air door and can hold it open; letting the lever down closes the door, which stays shut magnetically.

Installation: install per the kit's instructions and the fireplace manual, by a qualified installer.
