A Vent-Free system uses room air for combustion and delivers 99.9% of the available heat energy directly to the room. Vent-Free systems have an unmatched safety record, thanks in part to their clean-burning technology and their Oxygen Depletion Sensor, which instantly shuts of the valve if oxygen in the room drops to an unsafe level. Because no venting is required, Vent-Free systems offer more installation options.

Vent-Free systems are limited to 40,000 Btu and must be operated as supplemental heating sources in conjunction with a central furnace that circulates air.

Vail 36 Multi-Sided

At 99.9-percent efficient, the 38,000 Btu Vail vent-free multi-sided system is the ultimate supplemental heat source for any home. This clean-burning fireplace employs oxygen depletion sensor technology to continuously monitor your room air and instantly shut off the gas well before oxygen drops to an unsafe level.

Vail systems include a built-in 24-inch Slope Glaze Vista Vent-Free Burner, arched frames with fixed screens, Banded Brick Liner, and glowing embers.

Installation Requirements

• Clearances to combustibles: At least 1-3/4" from the inside of the fireplace to a perpendicular combustible side wall; ceiling at least 42" above the top of the hood; the outer casing sides need at least 1/2" clearance to combustibles.
• Mantel clearance: Follow the mantel chart in the installation manual for any combustible mantel above the unit.
• Venting: Vent-free. No chimney, flue or vent pipe is required.
• Minimum room size: The room must have at least 50 cubic feet of volume per 1,000 Btu/hr of the combined input of all appliances drawing combustion air from it (the manual's "unconfined space" rule). At the 38,000 Btu/hr maximum input that is at least 1,900 cubic feet.
• Bedrooms and bathrooms: Not permitted. At 38,000 Btu/hr this unit is over the limit: the manual prohibits unvented room heaters rated over 10,000 Btu/hr in a bedroom or bathroom, and over 6,000 Btu/hr in a bathroom. In the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, unvented propane and natural gas-fired space heaters are prohibited in bedrooms and bathrooms.
• Local codes: Always consult your local Building Department regarding regulations, codes or ordinances that apply to installing an unvented room heater.
• Gas input (BTU/hr): Natural gas 38,000 max / 25,000 min; propane 38,000 max / 30,000 min
• Power: Millivolt (750 mV) control: the thermopile is self-powered, so the gas valve needs no 110-volt supply. A factory-installed junction box provides a 110V AC receptacle for optional accessories such as the FBB5 blower.
• Installation: Must be installed by a qualified installer per the installation manual and local codes.
